COLD SALT WATER SPA
£36.00
The chilled saltwater spa provides significant benefits for equine athletes by combining cold therapy, the natural healing properties of saltwater and the physical effects of hydrostatic pressure and aeration. This drug-free, non-invasive therapy is widely used to treat and prevent lower limb injuries aiding both horses in regular exercise and those in need of rehabilitation. Some of the most common conditions where the equine spa is beneficial include tendon and ligament injuries, hoof abscesses and sole bruises, sore shins and splints, open wounds, cuts and skin infections and post operative swellings.
Key Benefits:
Inflammation and Swelling Reduction: The chilled water (typically 2°C to 4°C / 35°F to 37°F) causes blood vessels to constrict, which decreases blood flow and swelling to fatigue tissues.
Pain Management/relief: The combination of cold and hydrostatic pressure provides natural pain relief from several conditions of the lower limbs.
Accelerated Healing:
Improved Circulation: When the horse's legs return to normal temperature after a session, the blood vessels dilate, leading to a strong flow of nutrient and oxygen-rich blood that accelerates the healing process.
Oxygenation: Aeration (water jets) increases the dissolved oxygen content in the water. This is believed to enhance natural defence systems and speed up tissue repair.
Infection Control and Wound Healing: The high concentration of salt (mimicking or exceeding seawater salinity) acts as a hypertonic poultice, drawing out fluid and toxins, while its natural antiseptic and antimicrobial properties help cleanse open wounds and prevent skin infections like mud fever.
Injury Prevention and Recovery: Regular use post-exercise can prevent the accumulation of low-grade inflammation, relieve tight muscles, and strengthen tendons and ligaments, making them more resilient to future strain.
